Therapy for Emergency Services and Blue Light Workers
You’re used to dealing with difficult things.
That doesn’t mean they leave you untouched.
Perhaps you’re snapping at people at home, struggling to switch off after a shift, or feeling exhausted but unable to settle.
What’s troubling you might be connected to work, your personal life, or both.

What brings you to therapy?
The job may be part of it.
It may not be the main part.
You might be dealing with a relationship difficulty, bereavement, family pressures or something you’ve carried for years.
You may want to talk about something you would be facing whatever job you did.
Some of the things you may want to talk about include:
-
Difficult incidents or decisions that stay with you.
-
Feeling on edge, angry, low or unusually detached.
-
Struggling to switch off or settle after work.
-
Tension at home, or feeling distant from people you care about.
-
Loss, guilt or questions about how you handled something.
-
Leaving the service, changing roles or wondering what comes next.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong before we speak.
My Experience
I have worked with emergency-service staff through private practice, Employee Assistance Programmes, organisations and charities.
This includes police officers, ambulance and paramedic staff, firefighters, emergency call handlers and control-room staff.
My experience also includes working with soldiers and other Armed Forces personnel.
That experience gives me an understanding of some of the pressures people bring to therapy, but I won’t assume your job tells me everything about you.
We start with your experience and what you want help with.

How we would work together
You may be used to dealing with other people’s difficulties and less comfortable talking about your own.
You don’t need to have it all worked out before coming to therapy, or tell me everything in the first session.
We’ll talk about what’s troubling you, how it affects your life and what you want help with.
That might mean making sense of something that happened, looking at difficulties in your relationships, or understanding why you keep responding in ways that aren’t helping.
I’ll listen, ask questions and, where useful, challenge you.
We can work towards understanding what’s happening and finding something useful you can do differently.
