Supporting Boys, Young Men & Healthy Masculinity

Under Construction

Masculinity, Boys & Young Men's Wellbeing

Many boys and young men are growing up in a world that can feel confusing, demanding and full of mixed messages. Parents, schools and professionals often see the impact through anxiety, anger, withdrawal, low confidence, relationship difficulties, poor emotional wellbeing or a reluctance to ask for help.

At Charles Flint Therapies, I believe it is important to understand boys and young men beyond behaviour alone. Beneath many difficulties are questions about identity, belonging, purpose, masculinity, relationships and emotional development.

This section brings together information, support, counselling, workshops and training focused on helping boys and young men better understand themselves, build emotional resilience and develop into confident, responsible and well-rounded adults.

Why This Matters

Many boys and young men are growing up in a world that can feel confusing, demanding and full of mixed messages. Questions around identity, belonging, confidence, relationships and masculinity are often shaped by family, friends, schools, social media and wider society.

Parents, teachers and professionals may notice the impact through anxiety, anger, withdrawal, low confidence, friendship difficulties or a reluctance to ask for help. While these challenges are not new, many people feel increasingly concerned about how best to support boys and young men as they navigate the pressures of modern life.

This section brings together information, support, counselling, workshops and professional training focused on helping boys and young men better understand themselves, develop emotional resilience and build a positive sense of who they are.

About Me

I'm a counsellor, coach and psychology graduate with a particular interest in supporting boys, young men and the people who care for and work alongside them.

Over the years, I have worked with boys and young men in a variety of settings and have seen first-hand some of the challenges they face around confidence, identity, friendships, emotional wellbeing and masculinity.

I believe boys and young men benefit from positive relationships, healthy role models and opportunities to better understand themselves. My aim is not to tell people who they should be, but to help them build confidence, develop resilience and navigate the challenges of modern life in a way that works for them.

Alongside counselling and coaching, I provide workshops, training and CPD for parents, schools, colleges and professionals who want to better understand and support boys and young men.

Counselling for Men

Many men reach a point where they know something needs to change but are unsure where to start. This may involve anxiety, low confidence, anger, stress, relationship difficulties, a loss of direction or simply the feeling that life is not working in the way they would like it to.

Counselling provides an opportunity to better understand yourself, make sense of what is happening and find practical ways forward. My approach is grounded, non-judgemental and tailored to the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.

Counselling for Teenage Boys

Adolescence can be a challenging time for many boys. Parents may notice changes in confidence, mood, friendships, motivation, emotional wellbeing or behaviour. Boys themselves may struggle to put into words what is happening or feel unsure where to turn for support.

Counselling can provide a safe and supportive space to explore difficulties, build confidence, develop emotional resilience and better understand themselves and the challenges they are facing.

This section explores some of the common challenges boys and young men face today, including confidence, anxiety, friendships, anger, online influences and identity. The aim is to help parents better understand what may be happening beneath the surface and identify ways to support their son.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is healthy masculinity?

Healthy masculinity is not about telling boys and young men who they should be. It is about helping them develop confidence, responsibility, emotional awareness, resilience, respect for themselves and others, and a positive sense of identity. Healthy masculinity can include strength, care, courage, humour, honesty, accountability and healthy relationships.

Why are some boys reluctant to talk about their emotions?

Some boys find it difficult to put emotions into words, while others worry about being judged, misunderstood or appearing vulnerable. Emotions may sometimes be expressed through behaviour, humour, silence, withdrawal or anger rather than direct conversation.

Can counselling help teenage boys?

Counselling can provide a safe and supportive space for teenage boys to explore challenges, better understand themselves, build confidence and develop emotional resilience. Support can be tailored to the individual and their specific needs.

What challenges do young men face today?

Many young men face pressures relating to identity, confidence, relationships, education, work, social media, online influences and future expectations. These challenges can affect emotional wellbeing, self-esteem and help-seeking.
